Today, as the World celebrates International Youth Day,  with the Theme, Transforming Food System: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health,
Governments both at federal, state, and local councils should look inwards to ensure that policies they pursue and in tandem with global practices which prioritize the interest of the youths.

To highlight that the success of such a global effort will not be achieved without the meaningful participation of young people.

It has been acknowledged that there is a need for inclusive support mechanisms that ensure youth continue to amplify efforts collectively and individually to restore the planet and protect life while integrating biodiversity in the transformation of food systems. With the world’s population expected to increase by 2 billion people in the next 30 years, it has become recognized by numerous stakeholders that simply producing a larger volume of healthier food more sustainably will not ensure human and. planetary wellbeing. Other crucial challenges must also be addressed, such as the interlinkages embodied by the 2030 Agenda including poverty reduction; social inclusion; health care; biodiversity conservation; and climate change mitigation…

The Youth Is the bedrock and foundation of every society. The future and every meaningful development any society can achieve revolves around the progress and sophistication of the youth population. Thus any nation that wants to experience rapid development must consciously prioritize the welfare and education of the youth population!

Government should ensure that the youths, as Leaders of today, are properly integrated into Governance by appointing and aiding them to be elected into positions of trust as that is the only way to ensure they are nurtured for the leadership they must take up in no distance time to avoid leadership vacuum in future.

As youths, we should shun all manner of vices and focus on virtues that will endear us to the heart of not just leaders of today but the masses as that is the only way to gain their trust and confidence.

On behalf of the leadership of the National Youth Council of Nigeria Enugu State chapter, we hereby commend the Executive Governor of Enugu State
Rt Hon Dr. Lawrence Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, people’s governor of Enugu in this year’s international youth day program with the theme
Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health”,
