Fact Check, as Army Spokesman denies involvement of Army in Enugu community raid.

Following trending videos of some men cladded in military uniform, shooting in a place alleged to be a community in Enugu, the 82 Division spokesman, Abubakar Abdullahi, has denied the involvement of the Army in the shooting.

In a telephone chat between our correspondent and a man believed to be an indigene of the community but resides in Enugu (names withheld), he confirmed that there were shootings and burning of some houses in his Mgbowo community as was confirmed to him by some natives of his community, since he’s on his way to the village to find out the true state of things. On who was responsible for the attack, his response was “although those who carried out the act were reportedly cladded in the military camouflage, no one can authoritatively confirm who or what was responsible for the shooting as at this time.”

The message which was seen in circulation in different whatsapp groups reported that the shooting and burning occurred around 5am. The video in question was however shot in the brightness of the day.

Another indigene of the community who responded to our enquiries under the condition of anonymity confirmed the shootings. He said “Yes oh, they just left some minutes ago with some motorcycles”. When our correspondent asked “But are you sure it’s not an ordinary group wearing army camouflage?”, he responded “Maybe oh but the Army should help the community if they’re not responsible”.
