As the politics of 2023 continue to gather momentum in different states of Nigeria, a chieftain and senatorial candidate of the Labour Party in Enugu state, Ernest Ike Ugwu, has promised excellent representation in the Red Chambers of the National Assembly if elected to represent his people of Enugu North senatorial zone at the polls.

He made the promise in an interactive session with our Enugu correspondent during the week.

Ugwu said he would deploy all legislative instruments possible to lobby for a better deal and representation for his people, noting that more could be achieved for the senatorial zone, when compared to how things had been so far.

“Ernest Ike Ugwu is my name. Today, I seek for the support, collaboration and cooperation of the good people of Enugu North senatorial zone to hold a sacred mandate as their representative at the upper chamber of the National Assembly.

“I have been on consultations in my senatorial zone, asking my people to give me an opportunity to represent them, owing to my antecedents. I seek to bring to governance public and private leadership experience.

“Beyond law making, what we hope to do is to ensure excellent representation by deploying all legislative instruments possible to lobby for a better deal and representation for my people because compared to how things have been so far, more can be achieved for the senatorial zone.

“There will also be an improvement and upgrade in the kind of constituency projects that will be situated in the senatorial zone. We will no longer see constituency projects like distribution of Tricycles.

“We will begin to think towards constituency projects that are in line with what is observable in the 21st century.

“Nothing stops Enugu North senatorial zone from having a Tech Hub similar to Genesys Tech Hub, where young persons will be subjected to thorough IT knowledge.

“We want our people to have constituency projects that will equip them with extant innovative skills, make them gainfully employed and positioned to be exports to any part of the world, rather than projects that promote menial jobs in Nigeria.

“I have done these in the private sector and they are verifiable. I seek for a platform that will avail me the opportunity to do the greater good for the greater number of people.

“I am a wealth creator and have never sought for employment. I became an  employer of Labour immediately I left the university by establishing an ICT firm called Afriwice.

“I am 40 and I assure that if elected, nothing short of youth inclusiveness, alongside a general development across all demography of Enugu North senatorial zone will be  recorded”, he said.

Ugwu is the Enugu State Chairman of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, NAPPS, a body uniting all private schools in Nigeria. Recently, he purchased a Hummer Bus for the Association valued at about ten million naira without any donation or tax from his members, but generated the fund internally.

He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology from the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Anambra State and Verified Certificate for CS50’s Computer Science for Business Professionals from Harvard University, USA. He is the Director of Swiss Kids Academy and also the CEO of Afriwice Global Limited and Instant Deposit Nigeria Limited, all in Enugu.

His antecedents were responsible for his appointment as member into the Enugu State Education Sector Reform Committee by the Executive Governor of Enugu State. He is also a member of the Enugu State Education Stakeholders Forum.

Ugwu is the Convener of Nsukka Youth Entrepreneurship Summit, where he hosts all Nsukka Youths and invites technocrats on different areas of life to mentor them on how they can succeed.

He has sponsored the technical training of youths of Nsukka extraction on Programming, CCTV installation, Business Management, etc. At the last count, he had mentored and settled twenty-eight youths financially and otherwise.

Ugwu is from Obukpa in Nsukka local government area.

He will be running against the Governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi who is the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Amb. Ejike Eze of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
