The governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has distanced himself from the alleged suit against the presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, noting that no one should call his name if the person loses the forthcoming election.

He stated that the deadline for filing such suits had long elapsed.

Recall that The Pacesetter Frontier Magazine had reported that Wike and another PDP chieftain, Newgent Ekamon, took Atiku, Aminu Tambuwal and PDP to court over the party’s presidential primary.

However, speaking at the commissioning of House of Assembly Quarters in Port Harcourt, on Friday, Wike said he was focused on delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Rivers State.

His words: “People have called me that I went to court against Atiku Abubakar.

“I want to state categorically that I didn’t go to court. I just want to say it for Nigerians to know. I have kept quiet. I am busy with delivering the dividends of democracy.

Mr Wike denied having knowledge of the suit and implied someone else may have filed the suit without his knowledge.

“I don’t know anything about the so-called suit. I did not ask anyone to file any suit for me,” the governor told the media.

“I don’t know the lawyers. Am I a kid to be filing a suit at this time? I had 14 days after the primary within which to have filed any suit. I didn’t do that then. Is it two months after primary that I will file a suit?” Mr Wike said.

“If they lose election, nobody should call my name. I have told the candidate. If I wanted to go to court, I would have gone to court within two weeks.

“It is the candidate’s group that is doing all these things. Let the world hear. They are the ones plotting all these things, thinking they will spoil my name. We are supposed to be talking about winning the election.”
