Nwoye who is currently the General Superintendent of Christ Ascension Church (CAC), also stated the decision of the church to support and endorse the governorship bid of Mbah.

Nwoye made these known at a prayer and security summit for church leaders titled “Ascension, Government elections 2023 and beyond” on Tuesday, September 20, at Ascension Centre, Independence Layout, Enugu.

Speaking at the summit, Rev Nwoye stressed on the need to serve God honestly and fervently. He asked everyone especially young people to increase their interest in God.

Praying for Mbah, Nwoye endorsed and honoured him with the gift of the Holy Bible.

“Every politician has a church, we’re here today to assure you that we are behind you.

“As you are here today, we are solidly behind you. We will continue to pray for you. Sir, the Ascension Church is with you,” Nwoye assured.

On the security summit, Rev Nwoye noted the duty of the church to advise the government in promoting security and the need for the government to implement laws according to God’s word in order to maintain peace and security.

He also hinted on the need for the government to work with religious leaders because they need the help of religious leaders too.

“The Government need to involve religious leaders, so they can help speak to the citizens. They cannot do this alone; every leader has a church. We pray and also we watch- the Bible said watch and pray.

“Our leaders need to wake up and do the needful, while we the citizens play our own part. Despite the amount of money spent on security, there’s still a lot of blood shed and violence. We need reinforcements and employments in the security sector so as to have more people that’ll secure the state”.

Addressing the people, Dr Peter Mbah expressed profound gratitude and joy for the honor of Nwoye and the church’s support, endorsement and gift.

“I want to thank you all specially for this honour; I cannot thank you enough. I assure you that when your prayers come to fruition and I’m sworn in as Governor, I will not forget Christ Ascension Church”.

He appreciated Rev Ifeanyi Nwoye for his maturity and described him as a leader who demonstrates leadership in all his actions and endeavors.

“We are at that time when we’re looking for leadership models as well as mentors and here you are showing that in everything you do. Just immediately after the primaries, you were one of those that called to congratulate me and assure me of your support.

“To be a leader, one has to demonstrate characteristics of leadership and you have indeed demonstrated that”.

He also commended Rev Nwoye for his ingenuity in hosting such a summit which seeks to enlighten the masses on governance and security.

“We are happy that Enugu State is increasingly becoming a model of security for other states in the country. We hope that as you have made the decision to support me in good faith, the achievements of the current government in the area of security can be sustained”.

The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi on Religious Matters, Bishop Chinedu Nwoye, spoke on the duty of the church to help in maintaining peace and security. He criticised efforts of some religious organisations towards the issue of security. He charged the church to help promote peace and security noting that they’re also part of the process.

Dr Peter Mbah was accompanied by his running mate, Barr Ifeanyi Ossai, the state party chairman, Hon Augustine Nnamani, the Director General of his campaign organization, Ikeje Asogwa, a party chieftain, Rt. Hon. USA Igwesi, some Local Government chairmen, House of Assembly members, etc.
