Gunmen, yesterday afternoon, killed four army officers and one civilian in Umunze community, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

This came about two weeks after gunmen attacked the convoy of the senator representing Anambra South Senatorial Zone, Ifeanyi Ubah, at the Nkwo Market area of Enugwu-Ukwu community, killing some of the police officers and aides in the convoy.

Sources said the gunmen who attacked Umunze stormed the area around 1pm and opened fire on the soldiers who were in their stationary vehicle.

“Just this afternoon, we got security report that gunmen attacked the soldiers at the bank area. They didn’t rob the bank, they just killed the soldiers, four of them, and one civilian and drove off,” the source said.

Although a trending video showed three victims, one of the voices in the video said that one army officer was lying in the nearby drainage channel.

The video also showed that the army patrol vehicle was riddled with bullets even as some of the glasses were broken.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, could not be reached for comments on the sad development.
