The Director General (DG) of Peter Mbah Grassroots Canvassers, Barr. Steve Avah KJW and members of the group, yesterday October 4 2022, paid a courtesy visit to the Council Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government, Hon. Sydney Okechukwu Edeh at his Enugu residence.

The visit was part of the group’s ongoing sensitization initiative towards stimulating adequate consciousness and raising critical awareness across the State to ensure the electoral victory of Barr. Peter Mbah and other candidates of PDP in the 2023 general election.

The group had recently paid a similar visit to the Director General of Peter Mbah Campaign Organization, Chief Ikeje Asogwa, “Ide na – Iheaka” as well as the incoming Deputy Governor of Enugu State, Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai to assure them of the group’s readiness to raise the bar and to work in concert with critical stakeholders to secure the victory of Barr. Peter Mbah and other candidates of PDP in the soon – to – hold 2023 elections.

The group took the same message to the Council Chairman of Nkanu East LGA, Hon. Sydney Okechukwu Edeh yesterday. Speaking on behalf of the group, the Director General of the organization, Barr. Steve Avah KJW, described the group as a team of volunteers, who have resolved to galvanize support and garner votes for Barr. Peter Mbah through taking canvassing down to the grassroots.

The DG informed the Honourable Mayor that the group has membership in wards, communities, kindreds and polling units, stressing that the members are carefully selected, able men and women including past Council chairmen, former legislators, professionals in various fields of human endeavour including legal practitioners, Engineers and others, many of whom are experienced politicians and leaders in their respective fields. In his words, “Peter Mbah Grassroots Canvassers is a movement with a lot of momentum.”

Speaking further, Barr. Avah informed the Honourable Mayor that the group was embarking on the visit so as to brief you (the Honourable Mayor) on our agenda and also to confer on you the prestigious position of Chief Grassroots Canvasser of your local government, Nkanu East LGA.

He stated that the group was undertaking the initiative with the consent of the Board of Trustees (BOT) of the organization, the highest organ of the body comprising astute politicians and notable leaders that include: Rt Hon. Simon Atigwe, a serving Member of the Federal House of Representatives, representing the good people of Igboeze North/Udenu Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Prince Offor Chukwuegbo, a ranking Member of the Federal House of Representatives, representing Enugu North and South Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. KGB Oguakwa, a former two time Member of the Green Chambers of the National Assembly who represented Awgu/Aninri/Oji River Federal Constituency and Rt. Hon. Prince USA Igwesi (Ikemba), a former Leader Enugu State House of Assembly who reprented the good people of Nkanu East and West in the green Chambers of the National Assembly.

While presenting the work plan of the organization to the Hon. Mayor, Nkanu East LGA and a letter conferring the title of Chief Grassroots Canvassers (CGC) to him, the DG stated that Hon. Sydney Edeh was considered for the position based on his outstanding leadership role, vantage position as Chairman, Nkanu East LGA, his love and commitment to the Peter Mbah/Ifeanyi Ossai 2023 project and dedication to the party (PDP).

He added that the move was to further encourage and motivate him to do more towards the inevitable emergence of Dr. Peter Mbah as the governor of Enugu state in the February 2023 polls which he said was the primary goal of the group. According to the DG, members of the group were drawn from the 17 Local Government Areas of the state, the 260 wards across the state, down to communities and kindreds without exclusion.

Earlier, Hon. Uche Mbah, the Coordinator of Nkanu East LGA, while introducing the Honourable Mayor of Nkanu East LGA to his visitors, described the Mayor as one of the best performing chairmen in Enugu state and informed the group that Sydney won the Chairman of Nkanu East LGA following the quality of service he rendered to the good people of Nkanu East LGA during the brief but eventful time he served as the Transition Chairman of the LGA.

Other speakers included Hon. Barr. Oforbuike Nwanjoku (Ochiagha Ndumeze), Coordinator Aninri LGA, Hon. Cornelius Ugwu (Okwuoto), Coordinator Enugu East LGA, Barr. T. T. Ike Ugwonna, Coordinator Uzo Uwani LGA, Hon. Kenechukwu Ezeako (Kentuga), Coordinator Udi LGA, Olisa Ishienyi, a member from Igboetiti LGA, Igwe Okoye, a member from Nkanu East LGA and Karen Chinenye Agu, Coordinator Diaspora Services of the organization. The speakers aligned themselves with the earlier speeches made by Barr. Avah and expressed determination towards the realization of the group’s aspiration and commended the efforts of the Nkanu East Council boss.

In his response, the Council boss thanked the group for the visit and expressed satisfaction with the ideals of the organization. He commended the group for their cause which he described as a worthy cause. According to him, Bar. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, considering his track record, is an impeccable character, an asset and one who is on the mould of the quality of leaders Enugu state and Nigeria needs at this changing times.

While assuring the group of his total cooperation, he further stated that the role of the group has made his job easy as he will key into the work plan of the group and collaborate with them to ensure the success of Barr. Peter Mbah. He expressed confidence in the quality of persons that constitute membership of the group and charged them not to relent in their efforts but to remain committed to the ideals of the group which he said is in the interest of the entire Enugu State.
