...Says Enugu to be at the forefront of recreating the Igbo renaissance 

Frank Nweke Jr, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Enugu State on Sunday lauded the promotion of Igbo culture and identity as he identified with the Ijele Renaissance Theatre group.

A brainchild of Ibiam Ude and Chiagoziem Bonfilus Offor, the theater group has over the past eight months embarked on a journey of cultural promotion and preservation. They had successfully staged a play “Pieces of Our Bones”, a story about Biafra and the struggles of a people under immense oppression using stage performances.

In his address at the presentation of “Ụ̀WÀ MUNACHI”, Ijele’s second stage play, Frank Nweke Jr said the theatre is a very powerful tool of communication and cultural expression. He expressed his deep appreciation to the theater group for their immense efforts in promoting the Igbo identity through their performances.

“I want to pay my deep and sincere respect to the Ijele Renaissance Theatre. I visited during the rehearsals and promised to be here at the live show because of my keen interest in film, culture, history and entertainment.

“The Ijele Renaissance Theatre was born to use art for the revival of Igbo Culture and values to the world. This is in line with my dreams for Enugu State and it is a pleasure to see young people driving this narrative.

“By God’s special grace and through intentional policies like the return of history to schools and support for theater, film, entertainment and cultural expression, this state will be at the forefront for recreating the Igbo renaissance,” Nweke said.
