Frank Nweke Jr, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, on Tuesday spoke about his plans to honour the legacy of Michael Okpara, Premier of Eastern Nigeria in the First Republic, from 1959 to 1966, and create a system that produces more leaders like him.
He said this while engaging members of the Guild of Public Affairs Analysts, Enugu Chapter at his campaign office.
Responding to a question on how to guarantee sustainability of his developmental plans for the State, Nweke noted the importance of creating a succession plan that is focused on restoring the values of honesty, hard work, integrity and a life of service for leaders across the State.
This he said will be achieved through a deliberate effort to engender leadership training across schools and community centres in the State. Most significantly will be the creation of a leadership institute.
“Michael Okpara is the greatest leader the East has experienced in terms of governance, integrity and the foresight to create structures and industries that outlived them. He is the example of a leader that we must emulate and we will do this through the Michael Okpara Leadership Institute that will raise 100 leaders per local government area every year.

“The plans for this are already in motion and it will be in partnership with established leadership and policy institutions in Nigeria and across the world.”
He also shared that he would create a Day to celebrate Michael Okpara as a way of drawing attention to his legacy and the values he embodied as a leader.
