Frank Nweke Jr, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, has restated his commitment to maintaining an issues-based campaign as the leadership of the Catholic Church in Enugu and the Christian Association of Nigeria, Enugu Chapter, convened a meeting with the gubernatorial candidates on Tuesday morning at the Bishop’s Court, Enugu.

Hosting the meeting with the gubernatorial candidates were the Catholic Bishop of Enugu, Bishop Callistus Valentine Onaga, the auxiliary Bishop of Enugu, Bishop Ernest Anaezichukwu Obodo, the president of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Enugu Chapter, Rev. Canon Edeh and a representative of the Bishop of Nsukka Diocese.

Bishop Onaga charged Nweke, Mbah (PDP), Edeoga (LP) and Nnaji (APC) to shun any form of violence and personal attacks, encouraging them to convince the electorates by proferring solutions to the core issues affecting the State.

Responding to the Lord Bishop, Nweke thanked the Church for the initiative to invite the gubernatorial candidates in Enugu State and encourage an atmosphere of peace and civility through the course of the campaign. He thanked the other candidates for honouring the invitation and reaffirmed his commitment to shun violence, propaganda and calumny.

“My commitment to running an issues-based campaign is unwavering. I consider this a form of respect to our electorates who are currently confronted with challenges that are too serious to be sidelined by propaganda and calumny.

“I remain committed to sharing the solutions to these problems as I have done so far and will maintain cordiality in my relationship with other candidates. It is also my belief that no ambition is worth the loss of human life or dignity.”

Nweke also noted with concern the publication and dissemination of threats against party stalwarts of the People’s Democratic Party, stating that the best approach to registering dissatisfaction against a government is to vote for a preferred candidate at the polls.

“I also encourage my supporters and everyone who has rallied behind the Okeifufe Campaign to maintain their focus on our goal of winning the election and restoring Enugu to her pride of place in the Southeast and Nigeria. Pick up your PVCs and get ready to vote at the polls”, he concluded.
