Nweke promises free primary education, partnership with church for management of schools

Frank Nweke Jr, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, promised the complete handover of the management of schools to their respective denominations.

He made the promise an an interactive session for candidates organised by the Politics Commission of the Catholic Diocese of Enugu and the Justice, Development and Peace Commission (JDPC).

The session, which took place at the Holy Ghost Cathedral Enugu, according to the Chief Host and Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, His Lordship Most Revd. C.V.C. Onaga was the latest in a series of engagements with the party candidates organised by the Catholic Church to educate their members on political matters.

Nweke noted that schools performed better under the administration of the churches and his administration would work closely with the missions to ensure that the best education was provided to the children in the state.

He stated that the partnership will encompass the provision of financial resources needed for the running of the schools, teacher’s training and welfare and the development of a curriculum that prioritises STEM, History and Civic Studies.

Going further, he declared that primary education would be a priority for his administration as it is the foundation of all learning and would therefore be free and compulsory across the state.

On the welfare of teachers and other personnel in the sector, Nweke committed to the prompt payment of salaries and the introduction of benefits to attract high performing individuals to the profession.
