Following the heinous murder of the Enugu East Senatorial Zone Labour Party candidate on the night of Wednesday, February 22, 2023 by yet to be identified assailants, the Enugu State Labour Party governorship candidate, Barr. Chijioke Edeoga, has condemned the killing of Chukwu.

The LP guber candidate noted that late Barr Oyibo Chukwu worked hard in Labour Party and was poised to be elected as the next senator representing Enugu East having campaigned and canvased for votes in all the wards in Enugu East Senatorial District.

“He put across his views especially on restructuring which he was going to address substantially in the National Assembly if he had gone there. He was poised to win given the fact that in the zone, virtually all the candidates of LP won. He was killed, murdered in cold blood while going home after campaigns.

“We condemn in most earnest manner, the taking of life in most gruesome manner, for reasons of politics. No one’s life is worth taking in such an unlawful manner because of political aspiration. We pray that his soul rest in peace. We pray that our polity should witness less and less of such unlawful taking of lives. We also hope that his family will get fortitude to bear this huge loss.

“We also wish to inform you that LP has put in place, as the law allows, the machinery to select a new candidate for Enugu East Senatorial District so that on 11th of March, as INEC has said, Labour Party will field a candidate that will replace Oyibo and run the election and win it.

“We’re taking steps, we’re consulting important stakeholders and family members of Oyibo Chukwu to make sure that the person who emerges will meet all expectations both of the zone, Oyibo family and the party generally. Hopefully, the person will win, given the trend in Enugu State at this point in time.”

Recall that Oyibo Chukwu and his Personal Assistant were killed while returning from campaign along the Top land-Amechi road axis of Enugu State. Both were shot dead and their corpse set ablaze in their Sienna vehicle.

Another branded vehicle of the House of Representatives candidate for Enugu North & South Federal Constituency of the PDP, Ofor Chukwuegbo, was set ablaze together with the only occupant after he was killed too. That same night, the convoy the APC governorship candidate in the state, Uche Nnaji Nwakibie, was also attacked but his security men engaged in a shootout with the assailants which left two of them dead. Some of those in the convoy of the APC candidate sustained injuries.
