The Enugu State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 2023 governorship election, Mr Uche Nnaji Nwakaibie, has stated that his ambition to be governor was a noble one and not a do or die affair.

Speaking in Enugu when a group, Nwakaibie Support Group, led by Chief Goddy Nwankwo paid a courtesy visit to him, Nwakaibie reteriated his resolve to remain a credible gubernatorial candidate even after the elections.

Alleging that the election exercise in the state was characterized by wide spread thuggery, vote buying, intimidation of voters, etc, the Business mogul said he wasn’t just concerned about getting to power but doing so through a decent process.

In his words, “I am aware of the wide spread thuggery, vote buying, intimidation of voters, how our supporters were denied their civic rights to vote the candidate of their choice and lastly, falsifying of results in various local governments, which evidently led to the reduction of votes in Nkanu East local government from 30,350 to 16,000 for PDP.

“But in all these, I maintained my disposition that my gubernatorial ambition is not worth a drop of human blood and I am grateful to God for granting me that prayer.

“The process through which I get to power is paramount to me than the power itself. How can people die just because you seek power?

“If I am to use the power at my disposal to counter what PDP and other parties did, it won’t be easy on them and they are aware.

“Our mantra is ‘Enugu Shall Rise Again’ and we will follow any path that will lift Enugu out of the current quagmire and won’t be part of its destruction in any guise”.

Nwakaibie, who came fourth with a total of 14,575 valid votes, urged his supporters to be “calm, peaceful and law abiding”.

Stating the purpose of the visit, the National leader of the support group, Nwankwo, congratulated the APC standard-bearer for not playing into the hands of the enemies. He thanked him for being more interested in protecting people’s lives and playing by the rules.
