Following the fire outbreak that affected an old building at the Enugu Economic and Financial Crimes Commission office on Friday, May 5, 2023, and its successful containment by the men of the Enugu State Fire Service, a high-powered delegation from Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) led by the Secretary to the Commission, George Ekpungu, paid a Courtesy/Thank you visit to Enugu State Fire Service at the Fire Service State Headquarters in Enugu, on Monday, May 8, 2023.
Received by the State Director of Enugu State Fire Service, Engr. Okwudiri Daniel Ohaa (FNSE), Ekpungu warmly thanked the State Fire & Rescue Services for their rapid and prompt response in attending to the fire outbreak that gutted one of their administrative blocks in the ENUGU Zonal Command office.
He applauded the exceptional work and dedication of the Officers and Men of the State Fire and Rescue Services ably led by Engr Okwudiri Daniel Ohaa and noted that the Enugu State Fire Rescue Services today ranks as the first in the whole federation.
He equally called for a collaboration between the State Fire & Rescue Services and the EFCC Enugu-Zonal Command and requested the professional input of the agency in their South East Zonal Headquarters under construction.
Responding, the State Director of Enugu State Fire Service, Engr. Okwudiri Daniel Ohaa (FNSE) warmly welcomed the high-powered delegation from EFCC.

Ohaa appreciated the efforts of the EFCC staff that were on duty that eventful day for alerting the state fire service promptly, “because, without their prompt distress call, we wouldn’t have responded rapidly”.
“Enugu State Fire & Rescue services has come up to this present level due to the commitment, passion and hard work of the officers and men of the agency and also the enormous support of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Lawrence Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi who have provided a lot of logistics that has positioned the agency to this enviable height.
“Before now, the State Fire Service was in a Moribund state.
“Before 2015 we had only one functional fire truck that was being maintained by Timber Shade Market, but with the great support of this current administration, we now have 18 functional Fire fighting trucks and other firefighting tools that helps us attend to emergencies rapidly”, he said.
Continuing, “Also, after 60 years of establishing Fire Service in the Eastern Region, the administration of His Excellency has funded the construction and completion of Enugu State Fire Service administrative Headquarters to international standard. This and more have really repositioned us to be effective, efficient and responsive agency.
“I thank the EFCC for this courtesy visit and I know that this will boost our morals to do much more to save lives and properties in the state.
“Thank you for coming and God bless you all”.
