…rallies support for Gov. Peter Mbah

Enugu, the Coal City state was literally shut down on Sunday as a group, Ikemba Guys Association, marked its inaugural end-of-year party and induction of new members.

The event attracted the crème de la crème in Enugu and beyond including royal fathers, prominent politicians, businessmen and captains of industry.

For many who have been following the activities of the group especially in the build up to the 2023 governorship poll in Enugu, the group has become a real movement and political structure for mass mobilization.

It was not surprising the number and quality of personalities that assembled at the Vee Eye Pee Centre, New Haven, when the group took Enugu by storm at the weekend.

The founder of the association and former House of Representatives member, Chief USA Igwesi, while speaking on the direction of the group, said it was time for him, his friends and political associates who have stood with him over the years to give back to the society.

Igwesi, who had served as a member of the Enugu State House of Assembly and the Chairman of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), said the group will soon roll out its philanthropic packages for the less privileged in Enugu.

“These are the people who worked with me during those periods I was in service and my intimate pals. They are the people who constitute members of the Ikemba Guys Association. And it is a charity organisation with a philanthropic package. We want to give to society what they gave us. I assembled these people because they are very eager to compensate indigent people in society. So our aim is to form a cooperative society where we can do that in clusters and give back to society.”

He, however, noted that the group will continue to show support and promote the agenda of the governor of Enugu State, who he described as exceptional and capable of turning the state into one of the most developed capitals in the world.

“Our mission is basically economic, not political. But that does not mean that we are not politicians. We were with Dr Peter Mbah when he was asking to be the governor of this state. Peter Mbah is our person.

“We are a philanthropic organisation, which does not mean that we cannot key into the programmes of the governor. We urge the people of Enugu State to key into the programme. We want him to replicate what he did at Pinnacle Oil in Enugu State. With that, Enugu will be an eldorado. Enugu State will be what Berlin is to Germany; Enugu will be what Paris is to France; and the state will be what Madrid is to Spain.

“So we are not a political organisation but we still key into the immaculate and wonderful programmes of Barr Peter Mbah, which are aimed at recalibrating and resuscitating poor and indigent people in society. That is what we stand for. Our mantra is sustaining humanity and regenerating mankind. The organisation is not up to two years old. We have been doing this ourselves, but now we have come out, and in no distant time, society will hear our voice in terms of philanthropy.”

On his part, the Chairman of the association, Chief Sunday Eze, said the group is made up of resourceful, forward-thinking, and eminent personalities who can bring value to the table, adding that they have conceived ideas on which its activities will be based.

“We are excited about the fact that the association has conceived many forward-looking ideas upon which its activities are based, including constituting itself into a cooperative society with a view to going into agriculture and other productive ventures.

“Organising workshops and symposia aimed at empowering members of individual and collective investments, including investments in ICT, crypto currency/block chain technology, foreign exchange, investment in real estate, and other strategic investment instruments relevant at this time.

“Encouraging education and self-improvement among members, enabling them to engage in a quality journey both as individuals and as a group, and promoting social interaction with a view to building and maintaining mutual relationships,” he said.

He said that beyond internal cooperation within itself, the group deems it necessary to join hands with the governor, towards realising his most inspiring vision of building a new Enugu State.

“This we intend to achieve through individual and collective efforts aimed at galvanising improved interpersonal and group cohesion and cooperation.

“We are happy that His Excellency has created the space for such participation and partnerships. We are exploring opportunities for this cooperation in agriculture and other areas of common interest.

“There is a strong sense of assurance, which has elicited an ongoing discussion with the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and other prospective partners towards meeting the conditions for securing farmlands and other requirements for productive activities by the association.”

At the colourful event, the Ikemba Guys Association, raised millions of Naira in funds for the indigent and less privileged in Enugu State.

Prominent personalities at the event included the speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Uche Ugwu, Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Enugu State, Okechukwu Edeh, the commissioner for Youths and Sports, Barrister Lyod Ekweremadu, Enugu State House of Assembly member, Hon. Okey Mbah, a former Minister of State for Power, Chief Goddy Ogbaga, Chief Nwabueze Nnamani among others.

Prominent Enugu State Monarchs present included HRM Eze Barr. Igwesi Obi Igwesi; HRM Igwe Godwin Madu; HRM Igwe Emma Ugwu; HRM Igwe Chima Achiekwelu and HRM Igwe Greg Ugwu.
