Enugu Community Issues Disclaimer Over Reported Protest Against Nigerian Breweries

The leadership of Umuezeani Community, Ameke-Ngwo in Udi local government area of Enugu State has issued a disclaimer over reports of protest by their community against the management of Nigerian Breweries Plc, Ama, saying the community never engaged in any protest against Ama Breweries.

In the disclaimer signed by Hon. Nelson Agu, Secretary General; Mr. Nicholas Eze, Public Relations Officer and Mr. Okechukwu Agu, Chairman, Umuezeani Community, Ameke-Ngwo, refuting the protest reported in some parts of the media, and made available to Pacesetter on Thursday, January 25, 2024, the trio accused Mr. Nnamdi Amanoh who was reported arrested as a member of a gang “threatening to cause breach of public peace and order” in the community, not in relation to any protest by the community.

Accusing those mentioned in the news as being “undercover sponsors of the gang”, the trio stated that they “are not leaders of the community and has [have] no authority to represent the community…” and “should be made to face the wrath of the law”.

While demanding for an apology to the community over the report, they asked the media to verify their reports to avoid putting the community “in a bad light before the general public”.

Part of the disclaimer reads:

“You will recall that leadership of the community has within the last weeks disclaimed and reported the activities of some gangsters that has been threatening to cause breach of public peace and order, through their recent crime activities within the community, which started since October 01, 2023, even to the point that they undertook to be of good conduct in writing before the Commissioner of Police, Enugu.

“The group gang leader, who is currently under detention, one Mr. Nnamdi Amanoh who was arrested on Sunday in an operation with some of his group members that are currently at large, attacked the police at the scene of their operations, and they hid under the guise of being leaders of the Host Community to the multinational company, Ama Brewery to be engaging in all sort of crimes like waging local war, stealing, robbery and malicious damages of public and private properties.

“We wish to state that the persons mentioned in that very fa*e news are not leaders of the community and has [have] no authority to represent the community, in fact, does [do] not in any way represent the community, they’re the undercover sponsors of the gang, and should be made to face the wrath of the law”.
