The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced PDP’s Engr. Simon Chukwuemeka Atigwe as the winner of the February 03 2024 re-run election for Igbo Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency, Enugu State.

Announcing the result at the end of the election, the returning officer Prof. Nwachukwu J. Obiakor, declared Atigwe winner after polling 23,863 valid votes, over his closest contestant, Hon. Recall that a Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos State on November 03 2023 sacked Hon. Denis Agbo, the member elected on the platform of the Labour Party in the last general election.

The court removed Agbo, who was representing the federal constituency, and ordered a fresh election within 90 days.

The court, delivering its judgement ruled on the appeal of All Progressives Congress candidate, Dr Oby Ajih, mandating INEC to conduct a fresh election for all parties involved.

Ajih had approached the appellate court, challenging the ruling of the tribunal that the election did not follow the right process as the logo of her party wasn’t in the EC8A form.

In compliance with the Court ruling, INEC had fixed the re-run election to hold on Saturday, 03 February 2024, across 176 polling units in the constituency.
