On Tuesday, July 19, 2022, Frank Nweke Jr, the APGA Gubernatorial Candidate in Enugu announced Dr Princess Edith Ngozi Ugwuanyi as his running mate.

While many may hail the decision as inclusive and in line with his position on empowering women, not many know about her works and achievements.

Here are a few things to know about her;

1. Dr Edith Ugwuanyi is not a relative of the current governor.

2. Dr. Ngozi Ugwuanyi is a Health Practitioner and holds a Doctorate Degree. She obtained a Bachelors’ degree in Nursing from Texas Woman’s University. Edith earned a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Phoenix, Arizona in November 2007. She went on to obtain a doctorate degree in Health Administration from the University of Phoenix in July 2019.

3. Dr Ugwuanyi is invested in several Social Welfare Programs. She has launched and self-funded various programs to help increase the quality of life of Nigerians including a food safety and water hygiene program in 14 states in Nigeria: Enugu, Anambra, Imo, Abia, Calabar, Lagos, Abuja, Nassarawa, Ebonyi, Kogi, Niger, Edo,Akwa Ibom, and Portharcourt.

4. She is a Philanthropist. Dr Edith believes everyone should be given an enabling environment to thrive – She has launched several empowerment initiatives spanning awarding of scholarships, grants and monetary aids to support petty traders and donation of food items to the needy. She took this a notch higher during the Covid-19 pandemic and was recognised as donor of the largest relief materials in Igbo-Eze community.

5. She is a Serial Entrepreneur and Business Woman. Outside of her medical practice, Dr Ugwuanyi is a business woman and entrepreneur. She has established several businesses including; a cleaning business named Eddy Maids Cleaning Service, a small-scale snacks business and family-owned businesses namely; CN Healthcare Services, CN Healthcare Inc., CN Medical Equipment Inc. and Pharmacare Texas Inc., all of which she managed in the capacity of President and Administrator from inception until they were sold. She also managed a mid-sized African grocery store in Houston.

6. She is an Exemplary Leader and an Administrator par Excellence. Apart from holding a Doctorate in Health Administration, Dr Edith Ugwuanyi led several organizations and institutions in various capacities as secretary, Vice President, President. Her years of leadership and administration have been marked by results, growth and progress in the various unions.

7. She understands the importance of Job and Wealth Creation. Dr Ugwuanyi has established businesses in Nigeria spanning the agricultural and production sectors. She owns and oversees a herbal alcoholic drink establishment and farming establishments including fishery, poultry and piggery. She has just recently partnered with Hench Corporation to launch a health drink business in Nigeria in 2022, with capacity to provide thousands of jobs.

8. She is a Patriot. Dr Edith Ugwuanyi consistently positioned herself as and acted as a person willing to see Nigerians, especially the Igbo community, rise to their highest potential. Even while in the United States of America, she never stopped building businesses in Nigeria, investing in her people and being an active member of various Igbo communities like the Nsukka Union in Houston, Umuada Wawa Women Cultural Group. Through the platform of the Nigerian Union where she served, Edith has been an active Nigerian in diaspora as regards campaign activities during the country’s general elections.
