FG Releases Eight-Month Allowance for Non-Academic Tertiary Workers

The Federal Government has approved the release of eight months’ Consolidated Non-Academic Staff Tertiary Institutions Allowance for non-academic workers in federal universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.

The allowance covers the period from January to August 2026, according to the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa.

Alausa disclosed this in a statement shared on the ministry’s X account on Wednesday, saying the payment was part of efforts by the government to improve workers’ welfare and promote industrial harmony in the tertiary education sector.

The minister said the decision demonstrated the commitment of the President Bola Tinubu-led administration to supporting workers and ensuring stability in the education system under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He said non-academic staff played an important role in the effective operation of tertiary institutions and deserved recognition for their contributions to the education sector.

According to Alausa, the payment was also intended to address legitimate welfare concerns and minimise disruptions to academic activities.

The development comes after the government commenced payment of the Consolidated Academic Tertiary Institutions Allowance to academic staff.

Alausa assured workers and other stakeholders that the Federal Ministry of Education would continue discussions with unions, institutional heads and other partners to resolve outstanding issues in the sector.

He also commended tertiary institution workers and their unions for their patience and cooperation, assuring them that the government remained committed to fulfilling its obligations and improving working conditions across the sector.
