Chetanne Chinelo, Enugu

Following the submission of names of 15 nominees for commissioners to the Enugu State House of Assembly by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, on behalf of the Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, on Friday, July 28, 2023, the Enugu State House of Assembly will, today, Thursday, August 3, 2023, commence the screening of the commissioner nominees.

The screening which is to begin by 9am at the hallowed chambers of the state assembly will be superintended over by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Uche Ugwu.

For the first time since return to democracy in 1999, the screening will be in a house with a majority of members who are not of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state.

Recall that following the Obi tsunami witnessed in the concluded 2023 elections, the Labour Party has 14 members out of the 24 members of the state assembly, leaving the PDP with 10 members.
