Nigeria’s Senate has given its approval to Dr. Olayemi Cardoso’s nomination to serve as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The Senate has also given its approval for the appointment of the four Deputy Governors of the CBN, namely Emem Usoro, Muhammad Dattijo, Philip Ikeazor, and Bala Bello.
This comes after the Upper Chambers of the National Assembly conducted a thorough screening in which Cardoso emphasised the importance of reestablishing the autonomy and trustworthiness of the central bank by refocusing its primary mission and fostering a culture that prioritises adherence to regulations.
He additionally promised that during his tenure as the head of the bank, it will implement clear and open financial policies regarding data and emphasised that his leadership will not permit the mistakes made by previous bank administrations.
After the official approval of Cardoso and the new Deputy Governors by the Senate, the Central Bank of Nigeria is anticipated to convene its monetary policy committee meeting.
