The Nigerian Navy, on Wednesday, said its men intercepted 27 sacks of hemp worth about N35 million allegedly being smuggled into the country from Benin Republic.
The illicit drug was intercepted by officers attached to the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Badagry during a raid of some creeks frequently used by smugglers.
The recent seizure was coming barely two weeks after a similar seizure was made by officers from the Forward Operating Base (FOB).
Recall that the base carried out raids on the creeks in the area on August 24, during which about N5.5m worth of hemp was impounded.
Captain Ariwuyo Adams Aliu, the base commander, while handing over the illicit drug to operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), said operatives acted on intelligence gathered on the movement of illicit items into Nigeria through a creek linking Nigeria and Benin Republic.

He said on Friday around 7pm his men sighted a wooden boat carrying items suspected to be hemp.
He further said the suspects jumped into the river and fled through the village, leaving behind the drug.
The NDLEA Commander in charge of Seme, Dinnis Fingered Owen, thanked the navy for the synergy, which according to him, led to the seizure of the drug.
